I recently reviewed an EP by an excellent young band called Grip-Like Vice
in Sound On Sound magazine (UK), July 2013 issue. They list XTC as a major
influence, and to my ears their music embodies the spirit of the Swindon
combo.

The video for their song 'With the Band' is at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=eebnCAlx7qU.
(Band page www.facebook.com/griplikevice)

Thanks,

Dave Stewart
(UK keyboard player)

P.S. I have no direct connection with the band - my interest in them is
purely musical!

Hi Chalkerhillians,

Please see below a series of Tweets I received last month from Mr. P,
regarding Xmas songs / computer maintenance. Pretty mundane stuff, but it
was very surreal to be (albeit briefly) discussing such things with
someone who has been a hero of mine this last 35 years...

XTC (@xtcfans) tweeted at 11:45 PM on Mon, Jul 15, 2013:

Damn, computer keeps crashing as its like an oven in the shed,Putting my
Christmas song on hold and on the griddle. Try tonight if cooler

Neil Sheppard (@Herdsmann) tweeted at 6:15 AM on Tue, Jul 16, 2013:

@xtcfans is it a laptop? If so try a quick blast of air in the vent (I
fixed mine by blowing in there.)

XTC (@xtcfans) tweeted at 7:22 PM on Tue, Jul 16, 2013:

@Herdsmann No it's a gert big tower system,7 years old,pre cambrian in
computer terms

Neil Sheppard (@Herdsmann) tweeted at 7:27 PM on Tue, Jul 16, 2013:

@xtcfans Hmmm. In that case, careful with that data Eugene...

XTC (@xtcfans) tweeted at 7:51 PM on Tue, Jul 16, 2013:

Hi all! My name is Tobbe Janson. I'm from Sweden and I'm new to the list
but a longtime XTC-lover! Glad to be here! I just want to turn your
attention to what Dave Gregory is up to these days. He's an integral part
of the best progressive rock band since Genesis, namely Britain's well
hidden secret Big Big Train! Some of you probably know this already but
those of you who don't just listen to the marvellous guitar solo in the end
of this song!

Steven Wilson has produced the new mixes with the input of founder band

We have the cd/dvda and cd/blu-ray editions.

Both come with an expanded booklet and sleeve-notes by Andy Partridge, Colin
Moulding and Dave Gregory

The CD features a new stereo album mix by Steven Wilson and non-album track
Didn't Hurt a Bit.

The blu-ray edition contains several exclusive features.

Shot in the dark, but figured I'd see if you knew who played Karen
Bird/Wendy Wonderful in the Mayor of Simpleton video. I fell in love with
her as much as I fell in love with the band, but don't recall ever seeing
her again.

The word on the street is... XTC and Yes to join the roster of acclaimed
King Crimson reissues via the Panegyric label in 2013.

Panegyric, the label responsible for issuing DGM's acclaimed King Crimson
40th Anniversary Edition sets, has announced that it will be issuing new
archive CD/DVD-A & CD/Blu-Ray editions by XTC starting with Nonsuch and Yes
with Close To The Edge. Both albums will feature additional tracks and new
stereo/surround sound mixes by Steven Wilson.

September:

XTC - Nonsuch - available in two editions - CD/DVD-A & CD/Blu-Ray.

Ape House will issue the first in a series of XTC releases with Hi-res
stereo original mixes, new stereo & 5.1 mixes plus additional music & (on
Blu-Ray) video footage.

October:

King Crimson - The Road to Red - Limited edition, multi CD, DVD-A/Blu-Ray
boxed set.

DGM has assembled a set focusing on the final North American tour of 1974.
Though edited portions of this tour was documented on 1992's The Great
Deceiver, the bulk of The Road To Red is previously unreleased on CD and
will include new hi-res transfers from original analogue tape mixes of
complete, unedited concerts. Also included in the set is a new stereo mix
of Red by Robert Fripp & Steven Wilson.

Hello, enjoying your Chalkhills site. One item which I couldn't find
via my search on the site, and sadly (and not very usefully) I don't have
now : there was a magazine in the very early 1980s called Event, which was
Virgin Records' equivalent of the listings magazine Time Out, and I've a
vague memory that Andy Partridge designed a game which was printed in one
issue, as I know he's into board games (e.g. Nigel sleeve). The chances of
that turning up thirty years later are extremely minimal due to the
ephemeral nature of listings publications, unless a fan saved their copy.
Hope this little bit of info is of interest.
Best wishes
Stephen Drennan

XTC sighting! Well, hearing.

Two of the final three minutes of the Ricochet podcast for Sept. 4 are
devoted to "Pink Thing."

That's the sickest and cleverest in-joke I've noticed in a
while. Usually that podcast closes with a song somehow relevant to the
episode's main discussion, but in this case, near the end of the show,
co-host James Lileks, who might have been playing with some sort of
snack, observed that he had just spilled his seed ... and added, to
the amusement of the other hosts, "Is that a sin?"

No mention of Onan, but the point was made. The engineer could have
gone with "Pictures Of Lily" or "Rattlesnake Shake" to drive it home,
but Naughty Andy's paean to self-pleasure got the call.

With the intent of informing and not provoking, I should add that
Ricochet is a no-raised-voices discussion of the issues of the day
from a (U.S.) Constitutionalist/free-market/individualist
perspective.
