Couldn't agree more! Yes, I realize that Andy has many things going on but
I'd prefer to hear Fuzzy Warbles if i can't hear any new XTC music. The
release of "Spiral" and the two by Colin have only made me more anxious to
hear something new from the duo from Swindon. Oh and Andy when you do get
around to finishing up Fuzzy please add the Dukes song recorded for the
benefit album as my copy of the benefit was idly destroyed by my boys (turns
out my 7 year old twins are BIG XTC fans as well as fans of Richard Thompson
although I pity my one son when he finally realizes what "I Feel So Good" is
really about!).

Andy how about compiling an EP CD (or making it available at itunes)
featuring the three most recent releases along with the benefit Dukes cut
and any assorted unfinished business you and Colin just never got around to
putting out? Maybe you can get Dave to contribue an unfinished instrumental
or two as well. Titles for such a venture folks?

What would happen if we fans held an unmelted firearm
to the heads of Messrs. P. and M. and forced them to
produce a new XTC album?

Even working at gunpoint, Andy would delight us with
the quality and quantity of his output. But Colin? Am
I alone is fearing he would give us two songs,
totalling five minutes in length, about thinning hair,
thickening waistlines, decreasing capability to ingest
alcohol, and Mister Happy's more-than-occasional
refusal to answer the bell?

(No, I don't have any inside dope on what does or does
not happen upstairs at Chez Moulding; I'm just, you
know, sayin'.)

There comes the time when those musicians who do not
die young must be allowed to retire. Then there are
some who should be forced to. I borrowed *Clapton
Chronicles: The Best of Eric Clapton* from a friend in
order to add its contents to my iTunes library, and
while listening I came to the depressing conclusion
that if this erstwhile guitar god had clocked out
after *Slowhand*, around the time we lost John Lennon,
we wouldn't have missed much.

My next visit to Amazon.com (I'm not a shill, just a
satisfied customer) will be to buy, not Andy
Partridge's latest offering of songs he likes to play
on kazoo for his own amusement, but a good Yardbirds
compilation: part Eric, part Jeff, part Jimmy.

Unless ... does any Chalker feel strongly that the
Yardbirds are important enough that a casual fan
should avoid all Greatests, Best Ofs, and Essentials,
and instead begin collecting the group's real albums?
I'm coming, grudgingly, to the conclusion that Elton
John belongs in this super-elite group, although I
don't yet own anything but *Yellow Brick Road*. (What
should be acquired next: *Madman*? *Honky Chateau*?)

I know I need help bringing my music library up to
date. I wish someone in this Hill would write *The
Music of the 21st Century for Dummies*.

P.P.S.: On my American editions of *Sgt. Pepper*,

Well Mr. Freeq you cannot speak for me.  I don't think of Mr. Partridge, or
any artist for that matter, as my music monkey or slave that must perform
for me whenever it pleases me.  The man has outperformed most artists in
terms of putting out a consistently fine product that has brought, and will
continue to bring, decades of listening pleasure.  If at some time he
chooses to record a tasty tidbit here or there, or an entire feast, I will
be truly thankful for the sonic repast.  And even if he records something
that does not satisfy my palette, I still have that yummy back catalog to
dig-in to.  Not to mention the countless artists I continue to gorge myself
on that are out there.  Right now I'm on a bit of Sloan kick, as well as
Nick Castro and the Poison Tree's latest.

Frankly Mr. Freeq, I have heard sentiments such as yours before on this here
digest (long may it last), and I tire of them.

There's a new song Roger Daltrey wrote in honor
of his favorite football team, Arsenal. Typical;

Uhhhh, Mr. Phipps?  Speak for yourself, and please don't presume to
safely speak for all of us, leastwise not me.  Sure, you're entitled to
your own self-described "pissed" opinion, but next time try drunk
instead of angry... if nothing else it'd be a lot more entertaining.
I'll skip commenting on your laughable reference to "those occasional
royalty checks," but I will go on record as saying I really like "A
Song for Wes Long" -- it's catchy, it's got a good beat, and I can
dance to it... which is more than I can say for your pissed missive.
